Rila Monastery – Single day trip

Rila Monastery is unique architectural, historical and cultural monument of Bulgaria's Renaissance , wich is located in Rila mountain, on the 1147 m above the sea level, on the right bank of the Rila river.

 

It’s known as Holly cloister of Rila and it was important for Bulgarian history, in the struggle of the Bulgarians for their spiritual and political freedom, over the centuries.

 

 

It was founded by St. Ivan Rilski, in Х century.The modern monastery was built in 1816 - 1847 by Renaissance masters .The central church " THE BIRTH OF THE VIRGIN MARY " kept the relics of St. Ivan Rilski. „Hrelyo tower “ and the famous crypt „Preobrazhenie” are in the courtyard .

 As a monument of great importance and value, the monastery is onе оf the list with cultural monuments protected by UNESCO.

- Visit to canyon Treska and manmade lake Matka - one of the most impressive places in Maceonia, surrounded by a steal mountain, in which are hidden mid-century churches and monasteries, including the St.Andre monastery, which has carved writting over the west entrance that tells the story of when it was built which was in 1389 by Andre, second song of King Valkashin.

Seven Rila Lakes - Day trip

"A prettier site than the 7 lakes on the Bulgarian peninsula does not exist", the tourists who have tasted the beauty are certain. The site is out of this world...

The lakes are active during the entire year- even during the winter, because of the ski tourism, and during the summer- it serves as a focal point of many vacations.

The 7 lakes are icy, placed in stages in a circular shape in Rila are above sea level, from 2095 to 2535m. The are enclosed by the peaks of Cooh chal, Otovishi peak and Harameiata. From top to bottom are Culzata, Okoto, Bubreka, Bleznaka, Trelectneka, Pebnoto(6th) and the seventh lake.

The lakes flow from one to another and the mouth of the Dzepman River. For those of you who do not like to take long walks that there are lifts that take you from 1580m above sea level to 2100m in 16 minutes. It helps to evade the steepest parts and is very environmentally friendly.

To get from Strimon Spa Club to Panichishte, from the start of the lift, you need less than an hour.

The distance is only 75 km.

The whole trip around the lakes takes 3 hours. For people in search of a bigger thrill there are horses, that take the tourists around the lakes

Zemen Monastery – Single day trip

Departure from Kyustendil to Zemen monastery, situated in the curves of the Zemen Gorge of the Struma River. Sightseeing of monastery and of it’s oldest edifice - the little church "St. John the Theologian." It is one of the oldest monasteries valuable monument of culture and art. The monastery has a Tempestuous history.

In the second half of the 14th century cloister falls within the principality of Velbaz principality - possession of Despot Deyan. From this period is inscription of donor / 1354 /, which indicates that the despot was renovated and decorated the church. It has extremely original plan.

It was built in the XI - XII century and it’s cross dome by planq, made of travertine. Built as a cube, it is the only church in Bulgaria with this form. In architectural terms Zemen monastery is a phenomenon in the Balkans. In addition, exceptional value have ancient murals in 2 layers from XI and XII - XIV century.

There’ re preserved images of Despot Deyan and his wife Doya, of St.Ivan Rilski and St. Kliment Ohridski. In the murals are embodied all the essential Gospel themes. Residential buildings were built in the nineteenth century. Conjunction with valuable images of Kaloyan and Desislava in the Boyana Church, donor portraits of Zemen monastery are the oldest and most value of art.

Today, the monastery was rebuilt, fortified and protected as a national monument of Bulgarian culture and architecture. It was created during the First Bulgarian Kingdom. Departure to Kyustendil
